Dr. Cara Frankel is a clinical psychologist with her private practice office in Oakland, California. While she works with a range of presenting issues, she has specialties in working with Selective Mutism and high functioning Autistic Spectrum Disorder. Dr. Frankel has been working clinically with children, teens and families for 10 years. Her approach to therapy is integrative, utilizing psychodynamic, family systems and cognitive behavioral interventions. Dr. Frankel takes strong consideration of a child’s developmental needs and places high importance on incorporating parents and families in a child’s treatment. When working with children with Selective Mutism, Dr. Frankel employs family interventions, school collaboration, and individual work with children. Treatment includes exposure sessions in the office, community and at school, depending on child’s needs.

Dr. Frankel received her doctorate from Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University in New York City. She completed and later worked and taught in a postgraduate training program focusing on early childhood interventions at the Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services’ Institute for Infants, Children and Families. In addition to her private practice, Dr. Frankel has worked as a supervising psychologist at Oak Hill School, a non-public school for children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder and other developmental disabilities in San Anselmo, California, and as a clinical psychologist at Jewish Family and Children Services in San Rafael, California. While in New York, Dr. Frankel was an Instructor in the Psychiatry department at Weil Cornell Medical College. In California, Dr. Frankel has provided graduate student supervision at University of San Francisco’s psychology doctoral program and is currently supervising psychology interns at the Ann Martin Center in Emeryville, California.
