Dr. Catherine Eckel is a licensed psychologist with a private practice in Los Gatos, California. She is also on the Board of Directors for the Selective Mutism Association. Dr. Eckel has been treating children and teenagers with selective mutism for the past ten years. Her approach includes a combination of child treatment, parent training, collaboration with school personnel, and community-based interventions. Each treatment plan is specifically individualized according to the needs and unique characteristics of the child.

Dr. Eckel received her Master’s Degree at Boston College and her Doctorate at the University of Oregon. She completed her clinical training at Boston Medical Center in the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and at the Boston Veterans Affairs hospital. She was subsequently on the faculty at Boston University School of Medicine.

Dr. Eckel works with children and adults with a variety of presenting issues. In addition to selective mutism, Dr. Eckel treats individuals with generalized anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder, anxiety related to food, school refusal, social anxiety, attention difficulties, social/relationship problems, and others. She has presented to various groups, including school districts, parents, and other professionals, on childhood anxiety disorders and selective mutism.
