Deetza Franklin is a Florida Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Certified School Counselor with over 13 years of experience working with children and their families both in schools as well as privately.

Deetza earned a Masters Degree in School Counseling from Seton Hall University, and became a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida through Nova Southeastern University.

Deetza works with children and their families to address social and emotional challenges. Her practice, “Skills Focused Therapy,” (https://www.skillsfocusedtherapy.com) uses a directive, empowering, skills based approach to helping children overcome challenges.

Deetza has a passion for helping children with selective mutism. She uses a form of behavior therapy which helps clients to face their fear of speaking through gradual exposure exercises. She works closely with families and schools to guide them on implementing this approach into daily life. Sessions are generally in the home and classroom settings. She has seen tremendous growth in her clients and is eager to make this evidence-based approach more readily available to those who need it.

Mrs. Franklin’s experience also includes treating other forms of anxiety, strengthening emotion regulation skills, empowering victims of bullying, teaching “Social Emotional Learning” (SEL) in classrooms, and running therapeutic groups on topics such as social skills, healthy body image, and self-esteem.

Deetza’s empathic nature makes her easily approachable and she connects well with children of all ages. She is passionate about helping children and their families tap into their strengths, overcome challenges, and become their best selves.
