Denise Kinser received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Biology at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, PA and her Masters of Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has worked in a variety of settings as a mental health therapist- such as community mental health centers, schools and hospitals. Denise has a private practice in Charlotte, NC and is licensed to provide therapy in NC and SC. Her practice focuses on treating Selective Mutism and other childhood anxiety disorders.

Denise is the mother of a child who was diagnosed with SM at age 3. Although a licensed therapist herself, she was initially perplexed by this little known condition and dismayed at the lack of awareness of pediatricians, speech therapists and mental health therapists. Denise advocated extensively for her child and traveled out of state to receive appropriate treatment. Denise has witnessed many children overcome this condition with proper treatment and it is her passion to educate, empower and assist other families on their journey with SM.
In addition to providing treatment to children and families, Denise also provides consultation to other providers and serves on the Board of Directors for the Selective Mutism Association.
