Terryl Makuk Selective Mutism Treating Professional

Terryl Makuk is a registered Psychologist who specializes in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of selective mutism in children. In her part time private practice, Terryl integrates both Dr. Angela McHolm’s work with the work of Dr. Aimee Kotrba to achieve success speaking in school and community settings. Parents and teachers are a huge part of the success of this treatment and Terryl works as a team with them to provide appropriate strategies to guide the treatment. Together they develop a treatment plan which uses exposure, stimulus fading, and shaping to gradually increase the child’s comfort speaking.

In addition to her private practice, Terryl works part time for the Calgary Board of Education as a Psychologist, where her portfolio focuses on children with selective mutism exclusively. She is a member of the College of Alberta Psychologists and a Treating Professional with the Selective Mutism Organization. Terryl has completed advance training and consultation through the Selective Mutism Group’s Selective Mutism Proficiency Program and is a graduate of the Selective Mutism Proficiency Program.
