Shawna earned her Master’s degree in professional counseling from the University of Oklahoma. Currently she is a Child Development Specialist at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) and specializes in the treatment of selective mutism (SM), behavioral problems, and preventative infant mental health.

Ms. Standiford was trained in PCIT-SM by Dr. Steven Kurtz, an expert in child psychology with a specialization in selective mutism, in 2017. She helped coordinate and provide therapeutic services for the first Mighty Mouth Kids Camp – OKC (MMK-OKC). Since MMK-OKC’s inception, Ms. Standiford has continued to coordinate individual and camp services as well as provide therapeutic services as a lead therapist at OUHSC and co-director of MMK-OKC. Additionally, Ms. Standiford is trained in evidence-based interventions for children with disruptive disorders, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), and children that have a history of adverse experiences, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up. Further, Ms. Standiford is part of the A Better Chance Program (ABC) team at OUHSC, which is the only program in the state of Oklahoma that specializes in the assessment and treatment of infants and children with prenatal alcohol and drug exposure.

Ms. Standiford provides families and children impacted by substance use with information related to prenatal substance exposure & Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, educational guidance and case management services.
