Webinar Culturally Responsive Treatment and The Cultural Formulation Interview in Youth with Selective Mutism and Anxiety

Description:
This webinar will discuss the importance of emphasizing cultural context in our clinical work with youth and families. Then, the cultural formulation interview (CFI) will be described. How to gather culturally relevant information to incorporate into case conceptualization and treatment planning in the context of selective mutism and anxiety will be discussed.

Presenter:
Dr. Sanchez earned her PhD in clinical psychology at Florida International University, where she focused on accessibility of mental health treatments for underserved families and youth. Her main research interest focuses on the accessibility of quality mental health care for traditionally underserved families. More specifically (1) the innovative delivery of mental health services in children’s natural environments, (2) understanding structural and perceptual barriers to care, (3) and improving the cultural responsivity of mental health services. As a graduate student, she led an NIH-funded project examining the use of the Cultural Formulation Interview as a strategy to improve satisfaction, engagement, and clinical outcomes in traditionally underserved children receiving mental health care for behavioral problems. She is now a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine continuing to work on research to improve dissemination and implementation of effective treatments to underserved youth.
