Dr. Veronica Raggi is a child and adolescent psychologist and owner of Brighter Outlook Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, LLC in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Raggi has specialized in treating children with SM for over 12 years. She earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park and completed internship at Children’s National Medical Center in DC. She participated in a postdoctoral fellowship at NYU Child Study Center under the mentorship of Drs. Steven Kurtz and Richard Gallagher, both well-known experts in the treatment of Selective Mutism. Prior to starting her own practice, Dr. Raggi spent close to 10 years at the highly regarded Alvord, Baker & Associates, LLC in the Washington D.C. metro area. During this time, she co-developed and directed the Selective Mutism Program and Cool, Confident and Courageous Kids Camp (CCC Camp) with her colleague Dr. Kelly O’Brien. Dr. Raggi continues to co-direct the intensive summer camp for children with SM, run therapy groups, and implement research in collaboration with Alvord Baker.

Dr. Raggi provides a coordinated and goal-oriented treatment approach that targets speaking and social functioning within home, school and community settings. She strives to tailor her approach to each child’s individual needs and is collaborative and multidisciplinary. She works carefully with the school setting to train school psychologists, counselors, teachers and other school staff in providing effective behavioral intervention for the child with SM. This typically involves in-service trainings, regular consultation with school staff, and hands-on modeling of the approach within the classroom. She works with parents to establish a hierarchy of fear-related goals for practice, learn techniques for being effective bravery coaches for their children, and develop reward systems. She also provides cognitive behavioral techniques and strategies for youth to manage the cognitive and physical manifestations of their anxiety.
