We are incredibly excited to share with you the opening of our newest clinical program ~ a summer day treatment program to help young children, 4-6 years old, who struggle with behavioral issues.Whether you are a parent, teacher, or therapist, please take a minute to read these details, visit our Camp Capstone website and download the full program description.
Camp Capstone is for the kids who, sadly, often “fail at being kids” in some important way: difficulty staying on task, following directions, paying attention, persisting, waiting their turn, making and keeping friends, sharing, or staying calm when frustrated. We all know these kids and know how much they struggle to self-regulate. As clinicians, we also know how desperate parents are to learn effective strategies to help these children achieve self-control in their home, school and community settings.
CAMP CAPSTONE is NYC’s only therapeutic day camp specifically for this age group that also includes their parents as “co-therapists” along with our highly trained staff. The children will be in small groups, with several in-classroom and out-of-doors activities each day, guided by trained behaviorists. The parents will actually work shifts each week with the staff while being coached live, via a bug-in-the-ear, on how to best guide their child’s attention, cooperation, compliance, play skills, and frustration tolerance. This is the richest possible combination of parents and staff using identical strategies to support behavior change for the children. CAPSTONE brings together the best of Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Teacher-Child Interaction Training (TCIT), and the Pelham Summer Treatment Program (STP) model. We see parents as the agents of change for their children – the ones who will help the treatment gains maintain and generalize to real world settings.
