Courageous Kids Camp is a fun and interactive therapeutic camp for children 3-12 with selective mutism. Children practice their brave talking skills through fun group activities and increase their social confidence before they start the upcoming school year. Our activities include circle time, a guest storyteller, movement and music, crafts, playground time, a visit with a therapy dog, field trips to a fire station and local stores, Show and Tell, and much more! Throughout each camp day, children are encouraged and supported in talking to others, gradually increasing their “brave talking muscles”.
Each child has their own counselor to help them work on their specific goals, meaning they will get one-on-one attention for the entire camp experience.
We help children to face their fears of talking by using a systematic, positive approach with praise and rewards, and a daily trip to the Prize Store!
We also offer a daily parent group while the children are participating in camp, so that parents can learn the same skills as their child, and can be prepared to continue encouraging their child’s speech after camp. Prior to camp beginning, we work closely with parents to assess each child’s individualized goals for camp, and offer two pre-camp sessions to allow children to warm up to their new counselor before camp begins.
This will be our 4th year running this camp, and we have received great reviews from parents and campers alike! Join us for a fun weekend of building brave muscles!
