Annie Simpson and Rosalind Catchpole, experts in the treatment of Selective Mutism (SM) for an engaging, hands-on 1.5 day online workshop on April 16 and 17, 2021 that will leave you feeling empowered with a practical set of tools for supporting children to “find their voice” and thrive in school, with friends, and in their community.
Selective mutism (SM) was once considered a ‘difficult to treat’ disorder. Fortunately, we now have research-supported treatments that help the majority of children either recover from SM or experience significant improvement in their ability to speak across settings. In this workshop you will learn about the core features of selective mutism, principles of assessment, and key skills for working with children (including warm up skills, encouraging speaking skills, and fading in skills). You will learn how to implement a modular approach to treating selective mutism including parent coaching, direct child work, community practice, and school interventions.
