“Sophie’s Story: A Guide To Selective Mutism” is directed to children, parents, and teachers. This book also provides a guide to develop a plan for a team approach to interventions at school, and at home.

Dr. Vera Joffe has an excellent way of conveying a child’s feelings regarding socializing and communicating with others… both young and old. This book is excellent for chlidren as well as for adults to read. My hope for this book was that the emphasis was on the social communication anxiety a child encounters throughout her days NOT on just MUTISM… Fortunately, Dr. Joffe was able to accomplish that feat! Although SPEECH is the end result of the anxiety that a child feels, Selective Mutism is so much more than not speaking… I highly recommend this story for all interested in gaining an insiders view to the evyday suffering that children with SM encounter.
