Courtney A. Ferenz, Psy.D.
Dr. Courtney Ferenz is a licensed clinical psychologist in Fairfax, Virginia who specializes in diagnosing and treating individuals with Selective Mutism and other anxiety disorders. Dr. Ferenz provides comprehensive evaluations for children with SM, which involves direct work with the child, parent involvement, and school based intervention.
Cognitive behavioral therapy is used to treat the child in the therapist’s office and in natural settings. This involves the development of a communication “fear hierarchy” by helping the child face their fears in a gradual manner. The key is to help the child generalize the skills acquired in an office setting to other areas in order to improve functioning.
Dr. Ferenz completed her post-doctoral residency at a therapeutic day school (where she remained for four years), which required significant expertise with school aged children aged 6 to 18 as well as their families. She is now an employee of the Child and Family Counseling Group in Fairfax, Virginia. She is a member of the American Psychological Association and recognized by the National Register of Health Care Providers in Psychology. She is licensed as a psychologist in both Virginia and Maryland.
