Dr. Andrea Bliss is a registered clinical psychologist who specializes in the treatment of selective mutism and other types of anxiety in children and youth. She has received specialized training and supervision in the assessment and treatment of selective mutism for both children and teens and uses an approach supported by research to provide lasting changes. In treatment, children and teens learn and practice important communication and social skills to support them in talking to new individuals, in new places, and during new activities. She works closely with parents, teachers, and others so that everyone feels confident supporting talking goals in the home, community, and school settings. Treatment plans are flexible to meet the needs of local and out-of-town families and may include individual or group treatment. Virtual and intensive treatment options are also available. A comprehensive treatment plan, based on assessment results, will account for other challenges the child/teen may face beyond Selective Mutism.

Dr. Bliss is the founder and director of ChildForward Inc. and serves families across the western provinces. She additionally works in the OCD Program of the Mood, Anxiety, and Psychosis Service (MAPS) at Alberta Children’s Hospital and previously practiced in the Pediatric OCD Clinic at BC Children’s Hospital. Dr. Bliss is also a clinical associate in the Department of Psychology at the University of Calgary. She regularly provides workshops, in-services, and consultation on the assessment and treatment of Selective Mutism.
