About Dr. Sonefeldt
Dr. Sonefeldt is a licensed clinical psychologist (PSY25267) who has provided therapeutic interventions and psychological assessment for more than 15 years. She specializes in therapeutic interventions for preschool and elementary school-aged children, including child, parent-child, and family therapy; social skills and self-regulation groups; and psychological assessment. Dr. Sonefeldt is also a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). She provides school-based consultation and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). She has an endless amount of compassion and enthusiasm for improving the lives of young children and their families.
Services
Dr. Sonefeldt provides a unique perspective because of her specialization in relational and behavioral treatment approaches. Starting with a supportive relationship with parents, Dr. Sonefeldt creates an individualized treatment to fit the unique needs and circumstances of each family. Her approach to Selective Mutism focuses on developing a nurturing relationship with each child and family with an emphasis on evidence-based cognitive and behavioral strategies. Treatment can include a combination of the following: Evaluation, family therapy, parent consultation, parent-child therapy, school consultation, and/or social skills groups.
Education and Training
Dr. Sonefeldt earned her undergraduate degree from UCLA and her Master of Arts and Doctor degrees in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University. Dr. Sonefeldt is also a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), who has extensive experience working with children with behavior challenges using the UCLA model of ABA. She has also traveled internationally to provide ABA services to children with behavior problems.
She acquired specialized training in infant and early childhood mental health during a prestigious internship accredited by the American Psychological Association. While training at the UCLA University Elementary School, she received comprehensive training in school-based consultation and school-related psychological services. She also has advanced training in child psychological assessment from both Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and the Neuro-Developmental and Behavioral Clinic at UCI. She earned specializations in a variety of evidenced-based treatments including Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), Infant Massage, Managing and Adapting Practices (MAP), and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT).
