Judith Musaro Lichter Ph.D., LCSW has provided therapy for children and families for over 20 years, specializing in work with children and adults with anxiety/phobia, mood disorders, ADHD, autism spectrum disorders and developmental disabilities. She is an adjunct associate professor in the Human Behavior Department of New York University Silver School of Social Work, a team leader/therapist at Variety Child Learning Center in Syosset, New York and in private practice in Huntington, New York.

Dr. Musaro Lichter has worked extensively with children with selective mutism and their families, using a multimodal approach which includes play and behavior therapies to build coping skills, reduce anxiety, increase relaxation skills, confidence, self esteem and verbal communication. Dr. Musaro Lichter utilizes a range of behavioral interventions and cognitive behavioral strategies to enhance and facilitate a child’s communication experiences across multiple settings. Dr. Musaro Lichter works closely with a child’s family and school to establish a hierarchy of goals, planned experiences and rewards. Behavioral interventions are tailored to a child’s level of anxiety/phobia, based on thorough assessment of a child’s strength’s and needs. Dr. Musaro Lichter has investigated the connection between temperament and selective mutism, appreciating the level of difficulty a child is experiencing and how to best respect and address his needs while providing carefully planned opportunities for increased communication.
